SPIDERS...eek!

When we arrived at school today, we all helped some little spiders spin a web. The afternoon class even learned that spiders have spinnerets that make the silk for their webs! For this project, we had to listen carefully to directions. We used our pinching fingers to pull the web apart. We stuck it on some sticky contact paper. Then we used dot stickers to make spider bodies. We drew 8 legs and some eyes on each spider. We hope you are not scared of spiders,
because we are bringing them home today!

The morning class enjoyed our circle songs. We did some name work and found our own special letter (our first name initial).

The afternoon class also completed the calendar lesson.

We practiced some motor skills this morning. First, we walked IN A LINE! We tried some jumping, side stepping and walking backwards!

We took some time, once again, to talk about Halloween costumes. We are all feeling a bit braver about masks. Everyone was willing to, at least,
look through the alien mask!

Are you scared of me? NO!!

Look! It's just a person under that mask!

The morning class enjoyed a predicting "WHO" was behind the doors in our story. We also practiced saying sentences to tell which colored Halloween creature we wanted to put in the Jack-O-Lantern.

The afternoon class learned a little about what an x-ray can show us.
It helped us understand that skeletons are part of our bodies and can
only walk around when they are inside our bodies. The children really
seemed to enjoy this book. I have noticed, over my 30+ years of teaching,
that even very young children love non-fiction books. They are curious
about our world and seem to soak in the factual information.
You may want to consider adding more non-fiction to your child's library.

This morning, we took turns saying a complete sentence to communicate which Halloween creature we wanted. Then we put it in the Jack-O-Lantern! We also counted ghosts. We pointed to each ghost on the chart, as we counted, to help us learn more about the math concept of one to one correspondence.

We also had a team game, in the afternoon. We tried to see how fast we could order the numbers 1-12, when each of us had one number. That was fun and we had good team work and showed good sportsmanship.

The morning class had fun playing with their friends.

It was a great day!
Remember, no costumes at school tomorrow!
