"It was a fun day," said Brandon!

The sensory and Lego tables were a big hit! We haven't used then since the weather turned cold. The sensory table had 4 different fillings for the tubs. There was snow, beans, rice and corn kernels. Pouring, dumping, finding small toys made for lots of excitement! We also practiced working cooperatively and sharing with our classmates.

           

                     

 

We did one of our favorite songs today. It's called Ballin' the Jack. We have to use our right foot, so we always put a little circle sticker on our right foot. The afternoon kids thought it would be funny to put their dots on Miss Kathy's nose!!


So, Mom...now you can see my haircut!!

After circle songs and calendar, Miss Kathy read a book of nursery rhymes. We all tried to help read Humpty Dumpty, Jack & Jill, Little Miss Muffett

and Hickory Dickory Dock.

 Why nursery rhymes???

Here's what research says: Nursery rhymes are an almost universal part of young English-speaking children's lives. There are strong links between children's early knowledge of nursery rhymes and their developing phonological skills over the next year and a quarter. There is a strong relationship between early knowledge of nursery rhymes and success in reading and spelling over the next three years. Knowledge of nursery rhymes enhances children's phonological sensitivity which in turn helps them
 to learn to read.

You can have lots of fun saying nursery rhymes together at home. Just read the title of today's blog for a real kid comment!

Then Miss Kathy asked us to do some writing so she could collect a sample. The teachers couldn't help us...tricky!!

We had an outside recess and a yummy snack of cheese and crackers!

Friends & Fun!!

We started our day with bean bags. We work on crossing our midline, increasing our focus to task and working cooperatively with our classmates.

This morning, Miss Kathy read a very well loved book about a puppy and all the things he finds to start with each letter of the alphabet. In the afternoon we continued our focus on rhymes with a funny story

 by Bill Martin, Jr., full of rhymes.

 

      

We did some strengthening exercises to prepare for writing time. The morning class worked on their names, while the afternoon class continued

working in our school books.

 

 

We had a fun & tasty snack today...Cuties. The kids were all able to peel their very own cutie!

 

                                                    

Happy Birthday, Dr. Suess!!

Today we celebrated Dr. Suess' birthday since we won't be in class tomorrow.

"We can have lots of good fun that is funny!",

said the Cat in the Hat & Miss Kathy!

We enjoyed looking at many of the great Dr. Suess books
when we arrived at school.

It was fun to try on the cat's hat, too!

Miss Kathy read parts of The Cat In The Hat. We noticed that his hat has a pattern with colors. We got to make our own pattern hat. We like to use scissors & glue.

Next, Miss Kathy read Mr. Brown Can Moo Can You?"  We had a great time trying to make some of the funny noises that Mr. Brown made. Then we had a fun snack that was brown & came from a cow...did you guess chocolate milk? You are correct (although we used chocolate almond silk).

Of course, you need graham crackers with chocolate milk...YUM!!

In the morning, we had a special guest reader from the district office. Miss Brenda came & read her favorite Dr. Suess book, Green Eggs and Ham. In the afternoon, Miss Julie was our special reader. Then we asked everyone if they would eat a green egg. As you can imagine, the answers varied. The children were very surprised when we brought out the green eggs. Most of us were very brave to try one. And what a tasty surprise...the green eggs were made from white chocolate and a green M&M.

It was a special day. I hope you pull out your favorite Dr. Suess book to share with your child tomorrow to celebrate Dr. Suess, reading & your wonderful children!!
